Voice Alchemy

Somebody wrote me this morning. They said they love listening to me, but they get a bit lost in my translation.

That one landed, because I've been doing it to myself. Yesterday I got on camera and smoothed the edge off my own voice on purpose. This morning I sat down and wrote a whole letter trying to sound like Neville Goddard. Read it back, killed it. Both times I got myself back the second I let the imitation go.

I used to do this on purpose and it worked. There's a book called Steal Like an Artist, and as a photographer I took pieces from everybody I admired and built them into my own stuff. Photography captures the outer shell, and a shell can be made out of borrowed parts.

A spiritual artist works from the inside out. There's nothing out there to borrow.

Every time you try to copy your heroes, you create a gap between you and yourself.

So I got in my chart and traced over myself. Voice alchemy. Three spots: Lilith, Mercury, and Gate 23.

23 is the one I don't know how to use. Here's what it does. It takes a knowing that nobody has language for yet and turns it into something you can say out loud. Its whole job is translation. Its not-self is being misunderstood.

Somebody told me they get lost in my translation on the same morning I went looking for the gate that does that exact job.

The voice I'd been exiling is sharp and warm. Sharp enough to cut through the fog, warm enough to give you somewhere to land.

Your release creates the response.

Go look at yours. Find the voice you don't know how to use yet. That's usually the one holding the key.

Yesterday's video is the one where I was still doing it. Watch it and tell me where you hear me and where you hear somebody else. I mean that, it's useful to me.

P.S. I'm going to write you most mornings for a while. If that's too much you can turn the daily off and keep the rest, or leave entirely. I won't take it personally.
