Cipher Games

A choose-your-own-adventure, played on your own chart.

I spent two years trying to teach this in one-hour readings. I was good at them and I hated them, and it took me forever to work out why — I'm not built for one at a time. What I'm built for is taking one person's thing and making it fit everybody.

The first time I ran it I was fourteen. 1996, Academic Games — On-Sets: a universe you're dealt, a goal, and the whole job is finding the one statement that names it. Reality's Already Written is On-Sets played on a birth chart.

And the mirror works better with two reflections in it. That's a chart fact, not a sentiment — and it's the reason I stopped standing at the front of a room.

The eight turns

You already know your type. That's four words. Your chart has hundreds — and eight of them turn at the centre where you take your direction. Here they are twice: where they sit in your body, and where they sit in everyone's.

Eight gates, one centre — the turns a life takes its direction through. Flip it, and the same eight lift off your body and settle onto the wheel everyone shares. That move — your geometry becoming everyone’s — is the whole game.

What it is

A season with four dates. Your chart, exactly as it came — the universe you're dealt. A goal set on it, and one move: find the statement that names it. Reality's Already Written, played on a birth chart. Free to enter; a reader is all it asks.

The four seasons

Four dates, one a quarter. Each is a gate the sky turns on, and each carries its own name.

What you leave with

  • The one statement that names your chart — the sentence you keep saying after.
  • The eight turns, learned by hand — where your life takes its direction.
  • A second reflection in the mirror — the pair that reads you truer.
