Photographer's Blindness, Writer's Vision
Does your greatest pivot always have to happen in the dark?
I built a mirror because I couldn't find my reflection.
I didn't see myself online — so I made content.
I didn't see myself in business — so I built a media company.
I didn't see myself as an author — so I publish daily.
I didn't see myself in tech — so I built a mirror.
Every place I looked and came up empty, I built the thing that would've shown me back to myself.
The Avoidance
I found myself consuming instead of creating and the more you take in, the scarier it gets. Every day you don't post, you drift one step further from your own reflection.
What felt like a block was something simpler: I wasn't following my own strategy. "Post 3x a day." "Batch your content." "Document the journey." These methods work for other people — but they aren't built for your design. So what looks like procrastination or paralysis is really a hidden alignment problem.
And it hides everywhere — in the writing, in the speaking, in the flinch before you hit publish. This is what it looks like when you can't find your voice.
The Public Pivot
When I put down the camera, I put down my entire identity — and found out I never had a fixed one to begin with.
Eighteen years as a photographer, and then one day: meh.
I actually remember the date the camera stopped bringing me joy. October 14, 2025. My own personal D-Day. I crashed out.
But this new lens has a deeper focus and a new medium. I'm a writer now, and the written word is the tool. Painting a vivid picture in the reader's mind — that's my new north star.
I was aiming the lens outward when I should have been aiming it inside.
When your old life dissolves, you enter a space with no door. No way in or out, because this entrance opens from the inside. You'll know you're there when you're surrounded by people and feel the loneliest you've ever felt.
This is the vortex.
The liminal space.
The trenches.
Or it might be Detroit.
The location doesn't matter. This portal lives inside you.
Writing helped me navigate it. The Cipher was the map.
The Surrender
Flow state is a gift you were born with. You just forgot how to get there.
Start with your gut. That sound of "yes" is all you need. It's not about length of time — because if you're a Generator, you'll burn yourself to a crisp trying to initiate. Your ego and your mind are trying to work like a Manifestor's. Ignore them. Let the mind be your antenna: collect things to respond to. Don't kill the ego — give it a job, then give it PTO.
The hardest part isn't the writing. It's the surrender. And the surrender is the whole skill. That's how you write. That's how you sell. Same muscle.
This Is the Publishing Year
So I'm pressing publish every day, and these essays are to myself.
Call them raps. (I call them reps, too.) This is how I teach myself to write — out loud, in public, word by word. Every time I publish, I find a part of myself I couldn't see before. The mirror gets clearer.
Writing is showing your soul, which is why the writing wound cut deeper than the camera ever did. Who knew the visibility I was scared of wasn't my face — it was my voice.
I'm building in the dark. In the basement. I just left the light on.
The REMIX™️
I don't know how many hours it takes to get good. But I think I'm good right now.
So how do you start? Where do you start? You start with satisfaction.
The only answer that moves you is "yes." Those are your breadcrumbs. Every yes is a response to the universe working for you. Set the intention, and surrender to your strategy.
Welcome to my digital gym. Let's get some reps in. 💪🏾
Every day you publish, you find a part of yourself you couldn't see before. The mirror was never out there.
